GS Yuasa Corporation (Tokyo Stock Exchange: 6674; “GS Yuasa”) announced that it has supplied lithium-ion battery system for new cable car model of Oyama Kanko Dentetsu Co., Ltd. (“Oyama Kanko Dentsu”) for the renovated Oyama Cable Car. The battery system eliminated the need for overhead wiring and the new, wiring-less cable cars have started operation on October 1, 2015.

The Oyama Cable Car is operated by the Oyama Kanko Dentetsu and covers a distance of 800 meters in total, climbing to a height of 280 meters in about 6 minutes one way. The passengers have a bird’s-eye view of the Sagami Bay from the car and can enjoy the nature of Oyama. The cable cars were renovated, to mark the 50th anniversary of its inception, under the concept of “the observation car with a view of Oyama’s unique vista and landscapes” for the first time in 50 years.

Till now, the electricity used in the cable car for the lighting and broadcasting equipment was supplied through the wiring, while in the new model the electricity is supplied by GS Yuasa’s lithium-ion batteries. This enabled the removal of the overhead wiring, which made it even more convenient for the passengers to enjoy the view from the cable car.

The lithium-ion batteries installed in the cars are recharged from the power lines while they stop at each station.

GS Yuasa will continue with its endeavor to realize a comfortable and affluent society utilizing its latest energy technology.
